Graphic Novels in the ESL Classroom
The purpose of this project is to serve as a resource for teachers interested in including comics and graphic novels in their second language classrooms. On the website, Graphic Novels in the ESL Classroom, I include a theoretical background on the literacy benefits of implementing comic instruction in learning contexts. I then curated a list of recommended graphic novels that could be taught in the ESL classroom. This recommendation list currently consists of five graphic novels, offering a synopsis of each, a list of topics and insights for critical literacy instruction, a video of the author discussing their particular work, and panel samples. The final component is a resource page for teachers, including a list of books for teaching graphic novels, various pedagogical strategies to use in the classroom, and applications that both teachers and students can use to create their own graphic narratives.
